You may not know that the Historical Village has had a well hidden gem in the basement of the Baldwin house for many, many years.  This is the home of the Strongsville Society of Model Railroad Engineers!  This club of model railroad enthusiasts has built an unbelievable HO scale train layout that spans almost the entire basement of the building.

This display is formally open to the public for Historical Society events, but club members meet almost every Saturday morning to run their trains or to work on their latest project.  The layout is always evolving.  They love to talk about their hobby with other model railroad enthusiasts, so take the time to stop by some Saturday morning and check out their creation!  The entrance to the basement is through bulk head doors on the Northeast corner of the building.  If you see those doors up and in the open position, you can walk down the stairs and knock on the door.

Ron Spiga is the club president and you can reach him at honest_ron@ameritech.net

"The Hometown Heroes Project in Strongsville, Ohio is a community-driven tribute led by members of our City Council and the Strongsville Historical Society to honor the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Through proudly displayed banners along our Freedom Trail and the Town Center, we recognize the dedication, sacrifice, and courage of our local veterans—past and present—who have answered the call to serve our nation. This project not only seeks to celebrate the service of our city’s veterans but also strengthens our community’s connection to those who have protected our freedoms, ensuring their stories and contributions are remembered for generations to come. By investing in one of our banners, you too can contribute to this lasting legacy of Strongsville’s very own hometown heroes!"

For a number of years now, the Historic Village has become a great location for local Boy Scouts pursuing their Eagle Scout rank to identify a project to complete on our grounds.  The most recent example is the completion of a wonderful patio that will be the new home for one of our picnic tables.  Ben Kish is a Strongsville High School student and a member of Boy Scout Troop 221 in Parma.  Thank you Ben for a job well done!
